The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in employing video review technology.
Replay technology are set to arrive at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Competitors are granted the option to challenge certain decisions made by the official, following the practice currently in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
The new system will be operational on the main stadium and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This move comes just a year after the AELTC rolled out ELC, which terminated the longstanding role of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the ELC system, but they can request the official to review other decisions, such as:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Importantly, there is no cap on the number of challenges a player can request.
Case in Point
An illustrative case took place in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined Draper was guilty of interference, granting the rally to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not new for major tournaments. It has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system in place at every one of its tournaments.
Further Updates
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was in or out.
In other news, with precisely 100 days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have further announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
